‘Incredibles 3’ Announced at D23, Pixar Teases ‘Toy Story 5’
ANAHEIM, Calif. − Pixar revealed some surprising news at the D23 Fan Expo on Friday: The animation studio is making “Incredibles 3.”
Pixar’s chief creative officer, Pete Docter, dropped the bomb in front of 12,000 fans, the largest crowd ever for a Disney fan convention.
“As you can see, we have plans for ‘Incredibles’,” Docter said at the end of his presentation, before adding, “That’s right, we’re doing ‘Incredibles 3.’ “
Docter told the audience that Brad Bird, the Oscar-winning writer and director of “Incredibles” and “Incredibles 2,” is developing a third film. He had no other details or release date for the project. But the D23 crowd was dismayed by the news.

This summer’s “Inside Out 2” has surpassed “Incredibles 2” as Pixar’s highest-grossing film, along with Disney Animation’s “Frozen II” as the highest-grossing film of all time.
Pixar plays “Hoppers” in the new animated film, ‘Toy Story 5’ workers face difficult technology.
Pixar is also going “Hoppers.”
Coming off the success of “Inside Out 2,” Docter produced a new animated film called “Hoppers.” The film features Mabel (Piper Curda), a girl whose mind is transferred into the body of a life-like robotic beaver thanks to ground-breaking technology.
“Hoppers” comes to theaters in the spring of 2026. In it, Mabel will meet the beaver king (voiced by “SNL” star Bobby Moynihan) and the mayor of the evil people (voiced by Jon Hamm).
Docter also announced that Andrew Stanton, director of “Finding Nemo” and the writer of all the “Toy Story” movies, can write and direct Toy Story 5.
Stanton took the stage and revealed technology as the new villain targeting toys in the fifth “Toy Story” movie. He released art showing a child tucked under a blanket while the toys look on in sadness.
“The role of toys becomes even more difficult when our toy group meets what kids are most concerned about today: electronics,” Stanton said. “There’s serious competition with phones and tablets everywhere. So this time, it’s toys meets technology.”
Stanton added that “one of the biggest problems” in the film was the technical visuals of “50 Buzz Lightyear memorabilia figures stuck together in a playful way.”
“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” Stanton added. “Toy Story 5” will be released in the summer of 2026.
‘Inside Out’ gets TV series ‘Dream Productions’
Docter discussed Pixar’s first TV series, inspired by the world of the “Inside Out” movies, called “Dream Productions.” The series, which takes place between the “Inside Out” movies, will reveal how Riley’s dreams are made every night – on budget and on time.
“It’s set between ‘Inside Out 1’ and ‘Inside Out 2.’ So think of it as an in-between,” Docter said.
‘Avatar 3’ is titled: ‘Fire and Ashes’
“Avatar” director James Cameron flew in from filming “Avatar 3” in New Zealand to address the D23 crowd for the Disney panel.
After bringing stars Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana to the stage, Cameron said that it is very close to start showing the third film. But he officially released the title “Avatar: Fire and Ash.”
“The new movie is not what you expect, but it’s definitely what you want,” Cameron added. “Fire and Ash” hits theaters on December 19, 2025.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson dances before unveiling the new ‘Moana 2’ trailer
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (voice of Maui) and Auli’i Cravalho (as Moana) opened the D23 slate with a big Polynesian number that featured Cravalho singing beautifully and Johnson beginning to dance.
The box office star has revealed that there will be more to his demi-mod role in the new film which hits on 27 Nov.
“Maui’s singing again. Singing in the wrong keys,” said Johnson, who famously sang “You’re Welcome” on “Moana.”
The cast of “Moana 2” has unveiled a new trailer highlighting the plot that takes Moana to safety on her Hawaiian island.
“It’s looking beyond the box, and having the courage to look for more,” Johnson said.
